Ladonna Shanks wrote a book back in 2019 that focuses on the blessings we receive from God. And, while reviewing it, I discovered that she mentions Harbor Baptist Church and the ladies in the Threadbearers group who make quilts for special occasions and Veterans.
She writes, “More than just a quilt constructed from fabric of a patriotic theme, it was a gift from the heart. The craftsmanship was outstanding, a beautiful piece of work. The love and the sincerity with which the quilt was made and given was palpable, powerful, and real. It was my privilege to deliver this gift to a veteran, a longtime friend since grade school, honoring and acknowledging his service to his country fifty years ago. The bonus was that it was a surprise, an unexpected delivery.”

In Tidbits and Pearls, Ladonna Shanks shares incidents from her life, recounting them in a way that touches the heart and enriches the lives of those who read these personal stories. Her insights and lessons learned offer profound yet simple wisdom, gleaned from her seventy-plus years of life experience. Many of her essays focus on her family—her children and “grandgirls”—as well as her personal gardening business. Her faith shines through the narrative as a shining light for others to follow.
She writes, “The Threadbearers originated in 2003 with one woman who had a vision and a desire. Now a group of ten to fifteen quilters, most of them retirees, they can be found on any given Monday morning in a church basement, designing and creating quilts to be given to the men and women in their local community who have served in the US military. Many of these quilters feel it is their personal ministry, a way of expressing God’s love and saying thank you to some who may have been forgotten. Each quilt is unique, as the intent is to make them as individual as each recipient.”
Her book is available on Amazon and elsewhere on the internet in paperback, hardback and, of course, Kindle for only $0.99.
